@Neil Im using a beautiful free wordpress theme called Modern Clix. I think building genuine relationships is key to any type of interaction in business. This was a case of seizing the chance and building upon that to create a long-lasting connection and partnership. Thanks for your great comment and insight!

@_SaraKate_ Hey Sara, thanks for sharing that brilliant story, it really does show that personal connections and building genuine trust can help you achieve amazing things! It's lovely to hear other personal accounts like this, thanks for such a great comment.

Grace,

This was a great post. I just had to share that I got my current job as a result of a personal connection. I had gone to college with someone and we reconnected a couple of years later online. We started talking again daily and really reconnected as a result of the internet. When the time came to move on from my previous job, my friend suggested that I apply at her workplace. She knew the hiring manager and gave her my resume. The next day I had an interview with the hiring manager and less than 24 hours later, I got a phone call from the executive director asking me to take on the position. While my friend has since moved on from this organization, it was a great way to get my job.

She was able to recommend me in ways others weren't since we had both gone to school together and worked together previously. She explained to the hiring manager why I would be good for the position and, when I interviewed with the hiring manager it was obvious that she trusted my friend's judgment. It worked out extremely well for all involved and I have since moved up within the organization. Pretty fab way to get a job, eh?

It's nice to think that in an often impersonal professional world, that personal connections can and do make a difference. Every connection counts.

Hi Grace, came by your site via a comment by Leo on facebook.
First thing Wow, your theme pop's. Mind if I copy it?
Second of all I like that you talk about leading with an idea.
Third, what you seem to be promoting are genuine relationships whether on line or not.
And it's also nice to read that with a few well placed words (meaningful words meaningfully said) you can get really nice results.

@Caleb Thank so much, im happy it inspired you.

@Charan I think its a case of choosing your networks carefully and building your connections and profile to connect with others you wouldn't normally have access to. Thanks for the comment!

@Glen Thanks so much Glen for dropping a comment and for the lovely words, super appreciated :-)

THANKS so much for the reference Grace!

However, I don't think you're giving yourself enough credit here. People like me are referring you to our friends because 1) you do awesome work and 2) you're incredible to work with! Professional, friendly, and timely. It doesn't get any better than that :)

Grace, you make a compelling case for LinkedIn. I've been on it for some years now and used it successfully in my professional career(day job) but have never leveraged it for our start-up. Perhaps its time for a re-think.
